Do these toys really support infant toddler development?

On a recent search for a toy that supports infant /toddler development I decided to put this toy to the test:

Little Tikes 5-in-1 Adjustable Gym




This toy is a 5 stage adjustable gym that grows with baby and uses lights, color and sounds to help with the development of and infants coordination and movement skills.
  • has 3 parent selected play modes: motion, piano or songs
  • the gym locks into 12 different positions to support the growth of the child
  • has a sleep mode to save battery life
  • uses 3 AA batteries
  • price range is from $39.99 - $44.99



Stage 1 (0-6 months)

Baby can lay on her back and stimulate the motion activated kick pad.

Stage 2 (6-12 months)

Once baby is able to sit she can play with the lights, sounds, and see herslf in the mirror.

Stage 3 (9-14 months)

The gym turns into a standup center and supports child as they play


Stage 4 (12-36 months)

Converts to a table top for playing with games, blocks and puzzles.

Stage 5 (12-36 months)

Converts to an easle with a clip holder seating for drawing, painting, and coloring.
